Interconnected (networked) systems share common power and data lines form circuits between themselves via the ground wire (both referenced at the load). Note 1: Transient related problems are directly related to chip density. IC chips are being made with millions of components on a single chip. The denser, the more susceptible to transient voltages.

Note 2: Voltage regulators and line conditioners do not fix the transient problems. Because of the capacitive coupling between the primary and secondary winding of regulators and conditioners, when transients enter with very high rise times and high amplitudes, it will be coupled to the load side, causing damage, erratic behavior and degradation in microprocessor equipment they are supplying power to.
